The personnel committee decided March 12 to organize concentrated department-head evaluations in early April, aiming to avoid drawn-out, perfunctory reviews and to preserve an educative element for newer supervisors.
Members recalled that last year’s extended process stretched evaluations over several months and reduced participation; several supervisors proposed running two or three special sessions (morning and afternoon) over consecutive days to complete evaluations efficiently. The committee’s proposed format includes joint meetings with relevant committees and the option for executive sessions where appropriate.
Members emphasized that evaluations are not only an administrative check-box but also a way for supervisors to learn what each department does and to hear department heads’ goals and concerns; some supervisors said evaluations should be done in a timely fashion so they inform personnel decisions and renewals. The committee carried a motion to adopt the concentrated schedule and will aim for sessions in the first half of April, subject to availability.
