Chief Gonzalez addressed the council after the vote, saying, "I appreciate the opportunity and ... I'll do the best I can and I'll work with staff to do the best we can for this." He said serving as interim was not his plan but that he is willing to help the city through the transition.
The council did not state a timeline for hiring a permanent city manager during the special meeting; members indicated interview dates and next steps will be decided at a future meeting.
