The New Haven Unified School District board approved a series of personnel and procurement actions during its June 3 meeting.
Personnel and appointments: In closed session the board voted 4–1 to appoint Kevin Franklin to the position of assistant superintendent of business services. In open session the board approved an employment agreement for the assistant superintendent of business services establishing a three-year term effective July 1, 2025, with an annual salary of $277,000; the motion carried on the record.
Resolutions: The board adopted resolution 0602425 and resolution 0612425 authorizing trustee hardship payments related to Trustee Gonzalez's absences on March 18 and April 1, 2025; both motions carried.
Contracts and curriculum: The board approved authorization to use a California Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) contract for a flooring upgrade project at Hillview Crest Elementary (item 13.5); approved a memorandum of understanding with Union City National Little League (item 13.6); and approved a student fieldwork placement agreement with California State University, Long Beach for 2025–2030 (item 13.7). The board adopted U.S. history and AP U.S. history instructional materials for James Logan High School and Connley Caribbe High School (item 13.8) and approved purchases of reading screener and instructional supports (Amplify, HMH Education/Amira, and Spanish and Chinese materials) described on the agenda (items 13.9–13.13). The consent agenda (items 14.1–14.28) was approved as presented.
