Commission reviews general‑plan land‑use summary and asks for consultant briefing ahead of public hearings

Staff provided the Planning Commission with a summary of the general‑plan land‑use element update—part of a larger general plan rewrite that replaces a 2005 plan—and asked commissioners for direction before the item advances to public hearings and city council review.
Commissioners said they wanted more time and materials to evaluate proposed changes. Requests included maps showing existing versus proposed zoning by area and tabulations of acreage or percentage of city land in each proposed zone, examples showing how frequently the general plan will be amended going forward, and a consultant presentation that would allow the commission to ask detailed questions ahead of public hearings.
Staff said the environmental impact report (EIR) is complete and further GPAC, planning commission and city council meetings are scheduled. Staff also noted contract limits on consultant presentations but agreed to coordinate additional briefings and to provide requested maps and tables where feasible.
Commissioners asked staff to circulate the land‑use summary to all commissioners and to schedule a consultant briefing at an upcoming meeting so the commission can provide input before formal public hearings and vote stages.
