Staff updated the commission on two previously reviewed motel properties. The planning commission had earlier directed revocation actions; staff presented a letter from the property owner (Illumination Foundation) and a city acceptance letter confirming the CUP for 111 West Redlands Boulevard has been vacated.
Building official Jerry Ariano said the Astramm’s Way (1960) site received an administrative citation related to unpermitted construction and that a building permit application followed. The properties have received initial plan‑check comments and staff awaits resubmittal from the applicants’ designers. Ariano said many of the interior changes appear to be finish work in guestrooms (paint, flooring, fixtures) while structural/layout work was concentrated in the lobby; plan check will clarify the scope and necessary corrections.
Commissioners asked about ongoing verification and photographic documentation of demolition and reconstruction work; staff said enforcement and permit review are handled by the building department and code enforcement and that citations continue until the permit submittal demonstrates compliance. Because the CUPs were vacated, follow‑up on permit compliance will be managed through the building‑permit process rather than by the planning commission.
