Knox County appoints Adam Cook to Sheriff's Office merit board after split vote

The Knox County Commission voted on March 23 to fill a vacancy on the Sheriff's Office employees merit system board. After nominations for JB Brennan and Adam Cook, commissioners held a recorded vote and appointed Adam Cook to the unexpired term ending Sept. 30, 2028.
JB Brennan spoke via Zoom about a 30-year law-enforcement career, experience in internal affairs and hiring/promotions, and emphasized the importance of fairness and due process on the merit board. "I believe in fairness. I believe in due process," Brennan said.
Nominations were called and commissioners cast district-aligned preference votes during the nomination phase; the formal appointment vote was recorded as eight yeses and three noes (the roll-call recorded Russell, Lee and Fox as voting no). The appointment motion passed and staff will record and implement the appointment per county procedure.
The appointment fills the remainder of a term vacated by Daniel Herrera and requires the board to meet and resume normal merit-board business.
