Clive — The Clive City Council unanimously approved two resolutions on June 12 backing the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) Safe Streets and Roads for All grant effort, including project support and the city’s local match commitment.
Jeff and Dylan from the MPO briefed the council on two proposed grant elements: (1) corridor improvements on Northwest 86th Street (signal backplates and pavement-marking improvements to improve pedestrian safety), a project split across municipalities; and (2) a safety audit of the University corridor to identify multimodal improvements from NW 86th to 142nd Street. Dylan described the MPO’s funding programs and the June 25 grant deadline; councilors were told awards may take months to be announced.
Why it matters: The projects align with the council’s mobility strategy and could leverage federal implementation dollars; the 86th Street work is expected to be shared with Urbandale (approximate split described by staff). The MPO also offers data and technical services to member communities and is emphasizing Vision Zero-style safety goals.
Outcome: Council voted 5–0 to adopt both resolutions of support and the associated commitment documents in the council packet. Staff said they will continue to coordinate with neighboring jurisdictions on project scope and funding shares.
