At its Nov. 10 meeting the Quincy School District Board approved the second readings of several policies after members discussed clarifying language related to the student representative’s advisory role.
Board members noted that the student representative should not be described as having the right to "vote" in a binding sense; the board agreed to clarify the wording to say the student will not have the right to cast a binding vote. Board discussion also addressed how terms for student representatives are described, and members agreed to rephrase the term sentence to clearly indicate the intended two-year practice.
During the student-board report, the student representative proposed fundraising to purchase 15 translator pen devices for Spanish-speaking students and suggested pilot use to evaluate bilingual program needs. A board member invited the student to meet with district staff and technology personnel to review capabilities and feasibility.
The board took a voice vote to adopt the second readings (members signified assent vocally); no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
