San Bruno Community Foundation awards $16,500 grant to library summer reading program

Melissa N. said the foundation was established to manage restitution funds received following the 2010 PG&E gas-pipeline explosion and that the Community Grants Fund distributed a total of $300,000 to 29 local programs. She noted a partner contribution of $100,000 from YouTube/Google.org toward the fund and described the summer reading program’s goal of preventing the "summer slide" by engaging children with story times, bilingual programming, volunteer involvement and incentives such as free books and a chance to win a $1,000 college scholarship.
City Manager Alice Alex accepted the check. Council members and staff thanked the foundation for the award and noted the program’s role in supporting early literacy and summer enrichment for local children.
What happens next: The library will apply the funds to its summer reading program activities and report program outcomes as part of regular city and foundation communications.
