District transition staff presented an update on steps to ready campuses for the 2026–27 school year after closures, emphasizing campus-specific supports, completed walk‑throughs and coordination among academic, operations, IT and special‑education teams.
Staff said transition-team members have been assigned to clusters of campuses to provide differentiated support, and that many campuses will have individualized action plans. The Austin Ed Fund is sponsoring legacy projects at receiving campuses; staff showed examples of student murals being prepared for three receiving schools.
On enrollment, staff reported that 61% of families who filled out the transition survey were fully registered or in progress; outreach plans include phone banking and campus-by-campus engagement to reach the remaining families. Trustees pressed staff about the gap between the roughly 3,374 impacted students and 1,857 who completed surveys. Staff explained that many families did not complete the transition survey after receiving new boundary assignments because they intended to enroll at their assigned school and therefore did not need to complete the survey. Staff committed to campus-level follow-up and to providing trustees with more detailed breakdowns.
On staffing, the internal transfer window opened recently and the talent-strategy team is working to place impacted staff with an April 10 deadline. As of March 23, staff reported about 68% of impacted staff had secured placements, leaving 397 pending placements; the district plans an April job fair focused on external hires for remaining vacancies.
Trustees asked for clearer interim reports and more visible enrollment signposting for families; staff said enrollment slides and additional outreach materials can be shared publicly and that a phone-bank operation is planned.
