Commissioners approve batteries and encrypted radios to support county EMS training

Cheyenne County commissioners authorized purchases to support the county’s EMS operations and an active EMT training class.
An EMS representative told the board many of the department’s radio batteries are nearing end of life and that the department needs additional encrypted radios for interoperability with Thomas and Sherman counties. The representative said high-capacity batteries cost about $148 each and requested 10 of those plus five standard batteries; she also asked for four encrypted radios quoted at about $2,000 apiece. The speaker said the county has funds in an equipment reserve and requested the purchases be paid from that account.
The board moved, seconded and approved the purchase by voice vote. Commissioners noted the purchases will help EMT students who ride along and will improve reliability during long shifts and multi-agency responses.
Next steps: EMS staff will proceed with orders and deployment of batteries and radios; specific invoice amounts and vendor confirmations should be verified in procurement records.
