Committee previews Chapel Street banner design; opts to test 'support' and 'learn more' calls to action
Summary
Needham's Revitalization Trust Fund reviewed a Chapel Street banner mockup with the slogan 'What can you make possible?' and debated QR‑code placement, whether to include a town URL, and adding the word 'support' as a clearer call to action; staff will request mockups and test legibility.

Committee members reviewed a Chapel Street banner mockup on March 26 that uses the headline "What can you make possible?" and a QR code linking to the Trust Fund page. The presenter said the design keeps text minimal so passersby can quickly scan the banner, but members questioned whether the current language made the requested action clear to someone unfamiliar with the fund.
Members raised two practical issues: the QR code and the banner 'pocket' impose limits on where text can be placed, and some color contrast on the mockup may reduce legibility. A member said replacing "contact us" with a clearer phrase would help: "I think the word support would help a lot," the member said, arguing that a one‑word change would better convey that the banner seeks donations.
The committee asked staff to request two mockups — one that substitutes "support" and one that uses "learn more" with the URL needham.gov/ncrtf — and to compare how each reads at full size (48 inches by 23.5 inches) and in place on Chapel Street. The presenter said the QR code will take users directly to the Trust Fund page and that the team will test which layout reads best before printing and installation.
Members also suggested informal focus testing by showing the mockup to people who do not know the Trust Fund to confirm whether the message and call to action are clear. The committee will request updated images from the designer and review mockups at the next meeting.
