Commissioners approve multiple religious property tax exemptions

At about 3:00 p.m., Valley County commissioners reviewed and approved a slate of property tax exemption requests filed under the religious exemption.
Staff presented each parcel and the assessor’s recommendation. The board approved an exemption for RP16‑555 (Dear Flat Free Methodist Church, also known as Camp Cascade) at the assessor‑recommended assessed/exempt values. Commissioners then approved a full exemption for Our Savior Lutheran Church and a package of full exemptions for multiple Roman Catholic Diocese parcels; one commissioner recused themself from that vote due to membership in the congregation. The board also approved full exemptions for four Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints parcels (RP8705, RP2215, RPC4075 and RP2290).
Votes were taken by voice and recorded as in favor. Staff noted the county has reserved the last Monday in June (June 29) as the appeals deadline and allotted time for appeals processing. The board closed the exemptions docket after the recorded votes.
The meeting record shows motions, seconds and voice votes on each exemption; no contested appeals or public objections were recorded during the session.
