Beaverdam hears construction, streetlight and street-repair updates as crews uncover old records

During the meeting's "old business" segment, commissioners received a construction update from Travis. He said crews had begun restroom renovations at the theater and were scheduled to begin demolition at city hall; contractors encountered unexpected conditions that prompted change orders, including the discovery of a corner storage-room window that had been bricked over and several heavy lead-glass window panes. Meeting participants noted crews also recovered old minute books while removing paneling.

Commissioners discussed downtown decorative streetlight outages and recent breaker problems that left one side of a street dark while the other side remained lit. Blake Wallace was asked to check all downtown lamps and follow up on a decorative lantern that had been ordered about a year earlier but not yet installed; commissioners suggested finding an alternative vendor if necessary.

Travis and other staff reported active pothole repair work: roughly 40 to 50 yards of concrete and about 24 tons of asphalt patch had been used recently, and crews continue to identify and repair additional damaged locations. The commission confirmed cemetery trash pickup occurs weekly on Wednesdays, but members discussed moving to twice-weekly service if the current schedule proves insufficient.
