The Campbell City Council on Sept. 16 proclaimed Sept. 15–Oct. 15, 2025 as Hispanic Heritage Month and declared October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Ron Gonzalez, president and CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, accepted the Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation and described the observance as "both a celebration and a call to action," noting the month honors histories and cultures traced to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America and begins on independence days for several Latin American countries. Gonzalez urged the city to support Latino students and leadership pipelines, including opportunities in STEM.
Mayor Lopez—identified in the meeting as Campbell’s mayor—thanked Gonzalez, said serving as the city’s first Latino mayor made the proclamation personally meaningful, and emphasized inclusion of residents regardless of documentation status. Mayor Lopez invited council colleagues to add remarks during a photo opportunity following the presentation.
On the domestic violence proclamation, the council cited the national theme "with survivors always," recognized local service providers such as Maitri, and encouraged residents to access local resources. Staff noted Safe Chat Silicon Valley as a local resource and provided a hotline number during announcements.
No formal council action was required beyond the proclamations. The council proceeded to public comments and other agenda items after the presentations.
