Commission previews Measure A-funded nature panels for Piper Park

Staff member Nick displayed slides showing three panel concepts: a Cordera Creek panel, a food-web illustration and a panel about tidal processes. He said a county naturalist provided species guidance and that the panels are intended to be site-specific and educational. "This project is being funded by Measure A funds," Nick said, and added that signs had not yet been ordered.
Nick walked commissioners through proposed locations—behind the community garden, near high-traffic paths and an area used previously for a pumpkin patch—explaining that placement prioritized visibility for visitors and educational value. He said the project team hopes for installation in late winter or early spring and suggested a "meet the artist" event, Earth Day programming or a scavenger hunt to engage families.
Commissioners praised the designs as colorful and informative and discussed coordinating the panel rollout with other city signage projects. Nick confirmed Measure A funds would cover fabrication and installation and that staff would move forward with finalizing materials and scheduling installation later in the season.
Next steps: staff will finalize fabrication plans, order signs and coordinate a community event tied to installation.
