Rancho Palos Verdes City Planning Commission approves height variation for 2027 Vez Drive after debate over views and design

The Rancho Palos Verdes City Planning Commission voted 5-1 on Jan. 13 to approve a height-variation permit and site-plan review for a residential addition at 2027 Vez Drive.

Senior Planner Amy Cer presented the staff report, describing the project as including a 552-square-foot second-floor addition and an 82-square-foot first-floor addition to an existing 2,536-square-foot house, producing a total structure of about 3,170 square feet; staff also noted a conversion of roughly 52 square feet of existing garage into pantry/storage and a remodel of a front porch. After reviewing neighborhood-compatibility metrics and multiple view photographs, staff concluded the proposed structure would not cause a significant view impairment and recommended approval with standard conditions, including a requirement that exterior lighting comply with the city's lighting code (Condition of Approval No. 16) and a foliage-trimming requirement tied to pad or ridge elevation.
