County Fire battalion chief reports 665 calls in December; arcing incidents linked to weather

A battalion chief representing the Los Angeles County Fire Department told the West Hollywood Public Safety Commission that the department logged 665 calls for service in December 2025 and provided a month-over-month comparison to 2024.
"This is the activity report for December 2025 which generated 665 calls for service," the chief said, later listing 10 fires, 458 medical calls (112 advanced life support and 226 basic life support) and 338 patient transports. He noted the December total compared with 614 calls in December 2024 and said the reduction in total fires year-over-year was a positive sign.
Commissioners asked about a pattern of arcing incidents noted in the report. The chief said weather plays a role: "with rain there's wind, a lot of weather changes that occur ... a lot of it's weather related, wind related as well." When asked whether Southern California Edison or the Department of Water and Power is responsible for maintenance that could prevent arcing, the chief answered that utilities generally have responsibility for transmission and distribution maintenance and that the city also identifies issues and requests corrective action when needed.
Commissioners thanked the chief for clarifying the data and asked staff to remind residents to report hazards through the WeHo app so the city and utilities can respond. No formal action was taken.
