Mayor Anthony Basiata presented a proclamation recognizing Lennox Morero on the council chamber floor for ‘‘exemplary citizenship and compassion.’’ The proclamation recounts that on Dec. 20, when Lennox was 11, he and his mother were driving to a basketball game at 7 Hills Recreation Center when Lennox noticed a man lying in the snow on Broadview Road. He asked his mother to turn the car around to check on the man.
According to the proclamation read aloud at the meeting, a referee who was also going to the game assisted; Lennox, his mother and the referee helped the man to his feet and walked him to Conrads to get him out of the freezing conditions. The document says Lennox’s ‘‘quick thinking, compassion, and decisive action’’ exemplified community values and merited formal recognition.
After the proclamation, Lennox spoke briefly from the podium: "I just want to say thank you guys for being here today and giving me this award," he said. Mayor Basiata and council members congratulated him and invited the audience to applaud. The presentation concluded with a brief photo-op-style exchange and the meeting moved on to committee reports.
The proclamation does not create any formal city action; it is a ceremonial recognition recorded in the meeting minutes.
