Inspectors report progress on several properties; board sets status reviews for June and August

Hammond City inspection staff provided updates on multiple code-enforcement properties during the May 7 Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
On 2104 Sherman, inspections staff (Jordan) said about 5% of the work remained and recommended rescinding the demolition order and moving forward with completion of the rehab if the contractor follows through on payment arrangements. "The remainder of work that needs to be completed is the receptacles and fixtures. About 5% of the property remains needing to be worked on," Jordan said. The board indicated it would receive an order to rescind the demolition next week if the contractor completes payment.
For a long-standing problem property at 1219 150th, staff reported no contact with the owner despite past hearings; a bid had been awarded to JM Industrial Services for $19,500. The board instructed staff to send a 10-day notice, consider terminating utility (NIPSCO) service if appropriate, and set the matter for status on August 6.
At 1728 Stanton, the contractor completed required framing fixes and the installation inspection passed; the board set a 30-day status review for June 4 to verify remaining work and homestead status.
The board took no immediate demolition action during the meeting and set follow-up dates to track progress and ensure remediation steps continue.
