Local organizer revives ‘Dementia‑Friendly Tri Cities’ effort covering Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles

Leavon Lenoway, founder of Dragonfly Senior Navigation Services, told the Batavia City Council on April 6 that she is reviving a “Dementia‑Friendly Tri Cities” initiative to improve awareness and services for residents with dementia and their caregivers.
“We are resurrecting dementia friendly Tri Cities that is St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia,” Lenoway said. She described three main elements: individual consultations for families, a network of roughly a dozen monthly support groups, and community education to help local businesses become more dementia‑friendly. Lenoway said the next public meeting will be April 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Geneva Public Library.
Lenoway also thanked the Batavia Police Department for implementing a blue‑envelope program she called helpful in dementia cases. The program, she said, “hits close to home and I really appreciate that energy.”
