Board recommends contingency allocations for DOC medical care, veterans cemetery shortfall, and HAVA debt offset

At the March 18 meeting the State Board of Examiners recommended three contingency-account allocations to the Interim Finance Committee under NRS 353.268.
The Department of Corrections requested $4,149,382 to cover outside medical treatment and pharmaceutical services for the prison system; staff said this request is separate from on-bed telemedicine pods and officials had no objections. The board moved to approve that recommendation.
The Department of Veteran Services requested $492,884 to cover an unanticipated shortfall at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery caused by lower cemetery fees, higher utility costs, and increased contractual services; the board approved the recommendation.
The Secretary of State’s office requested $233,704 to cover a federal grant debt offset and associated estimated interest after the state lost funds from a Help America Vote Act grant when another agency failed to file a required report. Staff explained the HAVA connection during the discussion; the board approved the recommendation to the Interim Finance Committee.
All three recommendations were moved and approved by voice vote; the board did not record a roll-call tally in the public transcript.
