The Richmond City Council unanimously adopted resolution 2026-7 directing the city clerk to apply to the Michigan Department of Transportation to close M-19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026, for the annual Memorial Day parade organized on behalf of the VFW.
City staff said Mayor Ricks has coordinated the ceremony for several years and described the parade route (lining near BB and Bailey parks and traveling down Main Street past the Veterans Memorial). Council also authorized the purchase of three wreaths to be placed at Richmond Cemetery, St. Michael Cemetery and the Veterans Memorial as part of the commemoration.
The motions passed by voice vote. Staff will notify public-safety partners and registered golf-cart participants and circulate a parade flyer encouraging family and youth participation.
Next steps: The city clerk will apply to MDOT for the roadway closure and coordinate logistics with public-safety partners ahead of the May 25 ceremony.
