The Richmond City Council voted to approve a special-event request from Mcome 250 LLC to host a countywide car cruise ending with a car show at BB Street Park on Saturday, July 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Organizer Pete Lucito said the cruise will start at 8 Mile Road and travel into Richmond, and that the car show at the park will be limited by online registration; "once we register 250 cars, I think that's about what I counted the spots,” he said, adding that sponsors and volunteers will provide food and entertainment. City staff said the bulk of the event will use the pavilion area and parking between the pool and community center and that Pool Drive and adjacent sections would be temporarily closed to support access.
The council discussed logistics, including where registered cars will park, how to manage early arrivals and whether the city garage sale scheduled the same morning could conflict. A public commenter who identified as a cruiser warned that some cars can arrive as early as 8 a.m. and estimated turnout at "200–250 cars," urging the council to address potential crowding.
Council members and organizers discussed options to reduce overlap, including moving the garage sale to Bailey Park or routing overflow to alternate locations and coordinating police traffic control. Staff said a planning committee will meet to finalize logistics; the organizer noted a committee meeting scheduled for April 8 and said the city's recreation director and chief of police would attend to answer questions.
The council also approved a separate motion to allow an across-the-road banner on Main Street near ball equipment from July 10 through July 25 to publicize the event.
Organizers asked what insurance documentation the city requires; staff requested a certificate of insurance or a similar coverage statement for verification before the event. The motions to approve the event and the banner passed on council voice votes.
Next steps: organizers and city staff will continue planning with public safety and recreation staff, confirm insurance documentation and implement traffic and parking controls for the July event.
