Boys & Girls Club reports steady participation, expanded mental-health supports and school partnership

Brian Dennis, a representative from the Boys & Girls Club, updated trustees on the Lockwood school-based club’s operations and outcomes, emphasizing sustained partnership with the district and plans to expand mental-health supports.
"We enrolled 272 members. Of those 73 were in middle school and high school," Dennis said, summarizing last year’s participation levels. He told the board club members logged nearly 62,000 supervised hours, consumed more than 17,000 meals purchased from the district and that the club operates on a roughly $3.4 million annual budget.
Dennis said the Lockwood site is one of the organization’s oldest school-based sites and has served as a model for school–club partnerships. He described new investments in a STEM center and a mental/behavioral health lead position, but stressed the club is not replacing formal mental-health providers. "We're not planning to replace anybody...we're going to get kids connected to the right resources in the community," he said.
Dennis also described family-focused programming and a sliding fee model: middle- and high-school participants attend free, and the organization fee‑waivered close to $500,000 across the movement last year to ensure access. He invited the board to tour the facility and encouraged continued coordination with district food service for meals.
Board members thanked Dennis for the report and no formal action was required.
