Buddy Burkhart announces run for Knox County Commission 7th District

Buddy Burkhart, a retired Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy and Navy Reserve veteran, announced he is running for the Knox County Commission representing the 7th District.

"I feel like it is time for me to run for office and represent you, the citizens of the 7th District," Burkhart said, introducing himself as a father, grandfather and longtime resident of North Knox County.

Burkhart said he has lived in the Powell area for 25 years and described a long history of public service and political involvement, including campaign work. He told listeners he has begun his campaign because, now that he is retired, he has the time to serve on the commission.

He framed the commissioner's role as "only one vote" but said that a single vote "is for all of Knox County most of the time," noting he attends meetings across the county to gather perspectives.

Burkhart emphasized three priorities he said are shared across the county: "Infrastructure, public safety, and schools." He also flagged fiscal stewardship as a top concern, saying the county budget will be "big in the coming years" and that he wants taxpayers' money spent "properly and wisely."

Burkhart pledged to be present for meetings, committees and boards, to prepare decisions with the necessary information and to be available to constituents: "If you need something, you can call me. You can get a hold of me. You can tell me what your concerns are."

He closed by asking for support in the election and thanking listeners: "And see you at the polls."
