Resident asks council for timeline and oversight after temporary fixes to Brook Farm Road bridge

Kenneth Ki, a long‑time land‑trust volunteer, told the council the temporary metal plates and jersey barriers used to make the Brook Farm Road bridge passable have been in place more than a year and are causing safety and traffic‑flow concerns for the roughly 200 residents who use the subdivision access.

"It's been over a year," Ki said. "I asked again and I get the same answer — we're waiting for a grant. I'm concerned it's going to become a long‑term band‑aid. I would like to make a recommendation to the council that you establish a committee to monitor the progress and I would like to volunteer my services as a member of the general public."

Councilman Pollock made a motion to send correspondence to the town’s grant writer requesting the status of any grant tied to a permanent repair and to obtain correspondence from Bernie Salvatore regarding the condition of the location; the motion was seconded and approved. Council members discussed drafting an ordinance if a formal monitoring committee were to be created.

Why it matters: Brook Farm Road serves as a primary access for hundreds of residents; prolonged temporary repairs can impede daily travel and raise safety concerns for pedestrians, schoolchildren and emergency access.

What’s next: Town staff will request the grant‑status update and correspondence and bring follow‑up information to the council. The council also voted to consider an ordinance if a standing monitoring committee is desired.
