County attorney: sewer code rewrite will require enforcement staff; work sessions planned

The county's existing sewer code is written in a way that makes enforcement difficult, the county attorney told Bourbon County commissioners, and efforts to tighten the code will require additional training and staffing.
During a brief presentation the county attorney said a new draft code is more stringent and includes language creating a class C misdemeanor for non-compliance, but noted the county's current staff lack the training and investigative authority to enforce those provisions. "This is not something that got resolved today. It's going to continue with multiple work sessions in the future," the attorney said, and recommended the commission consider training or hiring personnel and possibly referring enforcement details to the planning committee.
Commissioners agreed the issue requires more study and directed staff to continue work-session review; civil suits related to sewer complaints were said to be handled by the county counselor.
