Carbondale officials say aquatics center is on track; solar panels, plastering and contingency items remain

Town parks staff updated the commission on construction and punch-list progress for the new Carbondale Aquatics facility. Eric Breninger said most items scheduled for February are complete and crews are preparing final steps before pool plastering and full commissioning.
Breninger said the solar mounting structures are on site and that the contractor expects panels to be mounted by the end of the month. "The solar panels should be mounted by the end of this month," he said. Staff also described adjustments to the cow-wall (translucent roofing) material sizing that delayed some finishes, and said the project remains in punch-list and contingency review with a trustees work session scheduled to review contingency accounting.
Financially, staff said there are contingency items being reconciled and provided an approximate contingency balance in the mid-six figures; they are cataloging pending change orders to determine which contingency bucket (construction vs. owner) will cover each item. Town staff also raised operational concerns such as noise modeling for air-source heat pumps and the selection of durable site furnishings and bus stops for the new facility.
What happens next: staff will present a detailed contingency and change-order report to trustees at their upcoming work session, continue punch-list work, and schedule final pool plastering and commissioning when site conditions and materials are ready.
