The Hacienda la Puente Unified School District Board unanimously approved a one‑year renewal April 21 for a college counseling contract that staff say supports five high schools and provides bilingual services to students and families.
District presenters said the College Access Plan offers a mix of drop‑in counseling, after‑school workshops, college‑essay help and parent meetings in English and Spanish. Dr. Anderson told trustees the program "has four counselors" who rotate among sites and run parent workshops; last year the district reported 141 student applications supported across high schools and 12–62 families attending various parent sessions at different sites.
Trustees praised the program while asking staff for more detailed outcome data and requested consideration of additional translation resources (Korean and Mandarin) to broaden access. One trustee said she would like the district to track longitudinal application and matriculation data to better measure program impact.
Board action: the motion to approve the renewal passed with an affirmative vote reported in the meeting record.
Next steps: staff will provide the board with requested data and consider expanded translation options for parent workshops.
