County staff asks to leave record open on $300,000 strategic demolition grant to support transitional housing site work

At a 10:35 a.m. public hearing on April 7, Jennifer Morland, director of Community Resources, presented a $300,000 budget adjustment for site‑plan development funded by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s Strategic Demolition Fund. The investment would be used to complete site development on county‑owned property where Calvert Safe Housing Network will expand transitional housing and a resource center for victims of domestic violence.
"This project is for site plan development and site plan development only," Morland said, noting the funds will go to a vendor to complete soil borings, stormwater planning and other site work. She said the nonprofit Calvert Safe Housing Network will manage future development and operations once the site work and funding are in place.
There was no public comment specific to this hearing and staff recommended leaving the public record open for at least 10 days under Local Government Article §9‑105 so the public may submit additional comments before any final board action; commissioners approved that action.
What happens next: the board left the record open and will consider adoption of the budget adjustment and related resolution after the comment period closes.
