Students of the week honored; Prairie Wind Elementary names new principal

The Laramie County School District #1 board recognized students and announced a principal appointment during its meeting.
Dr. Steven Embriani introduced eighth‑grader Haley Morton of Johnson Junior High as Student of the Week for March 30, praising her grades, attendance, NJHS membership and involvement in track. Haley’s favorite teacher, Ken Johnson, described her academic work, demeanor and contribution to the school community.
Dr. Karen Delbridge introduced senior Alexandria "Axi" Mitchell Elsasser of Central High as Student of the Week for April 6. Delbridge noted that Mitchell Elsasser plans to attend the University of Wyoming, is a trustees‑award recipient and an AP Scholar in distinction, and has contributed more than 700 volunteer hours at the Laramie County Library and more than 300 hours with Meals on Wheels. Joseph Barlo, identified as Axi’s favorite teacher, offered personal remarks about her character and leadership.
Carl King, member services officer at Western Vista Federal Credit Union, presented certificates and Visa gift cards on behalf of the credit union, which sponsors the Student of the Week program.
Later in the meeting Superintendent Dr. Newton introduced Brandon Anderson as the new principal for Prairie Wind Elementary School and praised his long association with the district. The board applauded the recognitions and the appointment.
