The Johnston County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a tax‑exempt loan request from West Johnston Fire Department to finance a 2025 Peterbilt tanker truck.
County staff said the department requested a $550,000 loan from First Citizens Bank to finance the tanker and noted the truck was ordered before the county’s apparatus replacement policy and carries an interest rate quoted at about 4.37% with a seven‑year term. "They request to finance the 2025 Peterbilt tanker truck," county staff told the board.
Chief representatives told commissioners the truck was ordered in February 2024 and that the manufacturer expected delivery by the end of the week. Commissioners moved, seconded and voted to approve the request.
The approval authorizes the department to borrow for the apparatus; commissioners thanked the department for its service and asked about industry lead times and costs.
