Catoosa County schools honor state champions, industry-certified programs and new principal

The Catoosa County Public Schools board opened its April 7 meeting with a series of recognitions celebrating student and staff achievements across the system.
Superintendent Nix highlighted the district’s recent visit from State Superintendent Woods and the awards given to 11 schools, saying the results “don’t just happen by accident. It is intentional and deliberate.” The board then heard multiple presentations recognizing career, technical and agricultural education (CTAE) achievements and extracurricular championships.
CTAE supervisor Bobby Davis introduced LFO senior Abby Perry, who won the state HOSA interview competition and was described as a two-time champion. The board said it will present superintendent medals at graduation to honorees. Davis also recognized instructors Travis Head and Alex Driskell for earning industry certifications through Construction Ready and LAPSEN; each certified program carried a $10,000 award, bringing $20,000 to the county. Superintendent Nix said the certifications are granted by the Georgia Department of Education and are valid for five years.
The board applauded the LFO Red Feathers and Ringgold High School dance teams after both programs won state-level championships. Director Lusk and other leaders credited coaches and students with discipline, service and community impact; student speakers described the teams as “sisterhoods” that taught leadership and resilience. Director Lusk presented the Superintendent’s Medals to the LFO dancers.
In personnel news, the board introduced Dr. Lisa Logan as the incoming principal at Ringgold Middle School. Dr. Logan told the board she plans a collaborative, PLC-focused approach and thanked trustees for the opportunity.
The recognitions portion concluded before the meeting moved into the business agenda and information reports.
