Linda Samara, who presented the item, said the funding would support the Center for Community Health & Well‑Being (operating as Her Health First) to update 15–20 web pages, make the site ADA compliant, refresh messaging, and support community outreach and training. Samara described maternal depression and anxiety as common complications of pregnancy and childbirth and cited a new California report estimating that about 35% of birthing people experience prenatal or postpartum anxiety or depression.
Before the vote, Commissioner Fernandez y Garcia said he would recuse himself from Item 9; Samara noted the recusal and the clerk confirmed five voting members would decide the item. Commissioner Wesley asked about the anticipated reach and how the campaign is used in community outreach; Samara said the collaborative partners do community trainings and that the Be Mom Aware campaign is integrated into the Sac Family Connect site and can include tools such as the Edinburgh screening questionnaire.
Commissioner Kothari moved the motion, Commissioner Wesley seconded in roll call, and the motion passed with the clerk recording ayes from Wesley, Gordon, Kasirye, Moak and others. The record reflects Commissioner Fernandez y Garcia recused himself for the item.
