Examples cited include workshops on college readiness for ninth- and tenth-graders, career-focus speakers for all grades, and targeted college-application support for juniors and seniors.
Board members asked about counselor-to-student ratios and whether any new state requirements would add costs. Mr. Gordano said the district has one counselor per building at the elementary/middle level and three counselors at the high school plus a college-career counselor; he told the board there were "no" anticipated new state requirements that would generate additional costs for the district at this time. He encouraged board members to review the full plan and attachments provided in the meeting backup and to submit questions before the next meeting.
The board was told the plan will be reviewed administratively and then brought to the board for approval before submission to the state.
