Round Lake board approves contracts, position-control changes and safety-hazard forms

The Round Lake Area Board of Education voted on a set of routine operational and contract items at its April 6 meeting, approving vendor agreements and administrative actions reviewed by the finance committee.
Principal Peterson presented a prom DJ contract for Monster Entertainment and said the $3,500 vendor has been used by the district in the past; he noted required background checks and a certificate of insurance will be secured. "This contract is for $3,500 and will be paid out of the student council account," he said. The board approved the DJ contract and a $3,850 contract for a prom flip book (MPL Ventures) by roll call.
The board also approved a set of rental agreements and audio/visual services for middle school promotion and high school graduation (Big Tent Events and TC Furlong), and a firewall-licensing renewal through CDW Palo Alto with total cost $119,945 (a portion eligible for reimbursement; the district cost is approximately $75,916.45).
Administrators asked the board to approve position-control changes that reclassify the director-level safety position to Director of Operations and Safety and convert the retiring construction project manager position to a Coordinator of Operations. The board supported the changes after discussion about how the role aligns to individual qualifications.
Miss Bennett presented three serious safety-hazard forms (including locations in the McGee/Murphy area and south of Rollins Road near Round Lake Middle School) to formalize transportation provisions; the board approved the forms and administration will await IDOT review (staff expected results within about 30 days).
Other approved items included a Solution Tree contract for elementary PLC work ($14,200), a student-device resale and buyback agreement with Second Life Mac, an independent-contractor agreement with Shadia Salam ($4,500) funded by Title III for professional development, and continued partnership with the United Way for a Kindergarten Countdown Camp (up to 45 students; the United Way covers teacher salaries and the district covers benefits).
The board also approved a notice of remedial warning for employee Justine Herrera by roll-call vote. Where finance had raised questions, administration said adjustments had been made and staff will return with corrected contract language or implementation details where required.
