Mayor Doug Goetzinger of Northwood asked the Worth County Board of Supervisors to reconsider extending a 28E law-enforcement agreement for his city and requested that the county provide a clear cost figure and any concessions needed for the agreement.
"We are just here to respectfully request that you reconsider um extending the law enforcement 28E for the city of Northwood," Mayor Doug Goetzinger told the board, adding that his city does not want county taxpayers to be asked to "pay for any sort of law enforcement within the city of Northwood" if the numbers are not fair.
Board members said the sheriff's budget number is the baseline for county law-enforcement costs and emphasized that the sheriff's requested budget is intended to cover countywide protection. The board noted it is awaiting a legal review and that upcoming union negotiations may influence the appropriate length of any agreement; members said they would follow up with attorneys and provide an official figure to Northwood.
There was no vote on the 28E agreement at the meeting; the board took the request under consideration and said staff and county counsel will continue discussions and return with specific numbers and recommended terms.
