SPCA donates 90 emergency animal‑extraction kits; League of Women Voters distributes citizen guide

Animal‑rescue equipment: Pam Anderson representing the Eastern North Carolina SPCA described a grant‑funded initiative that produced 90 emergency animal‑extraction kits to be donated to Dare County first responders, including police, fire, EMS, lifeguards and marine patrol. She described kit contents—head harnesses, muzzles, collapsible water bowls, leashes, collars and treats—and said lifeguards and marine patrol have requested kits for water rescues.
Citizen guide distribution: Janet Haspert of the League of Women Voters said the organization has published and distributed about 6,400 copies of its annual citizen guide across Dare County, providing contact information for government agencies, voting details and emergency numbers.
The board thanked both organizations and noted the public‑safety and civic‑engagement benefits of those local initiatives.
