Commissioners defer proposed rezoning after neighbor, fire chief raise emergency-access and address concerns
Summary
Two companion ordinances to reclassify five acres into two 2.5-acre residential lots were deferred to May 19 after neighbors and the fire chief highlighted private-road access, addressing and emergency-vehicle access deficiencies.

The board deferred two companion items (ordinance 2026-01, small-scale land-use amendment, and ordinance 2026-02, rezoning) affecting two 2.5-acre parcels after a neighbor and county safety officials raised access and addressing problems.
Planner Miss Colmes explained the request would convert two contiguous 2.5-acre parcels from Agricultural B / A10 nonconforming status so each parcel could hold a mobile home. During public comment, Marva Williams, an adjacent property owner, said Hill Lane is private and that the parcel map and issued address were misleading: "Hill Lane is my property... we do not want public traffic going through here," she told commissioners, urging that emergency access be secured.
Chief Nelson and several commissioners echoed safety concerns, noting easements, gated hunting-club gates on the route, and the potential for family-lot provisions to allow more dwellings without additional review. The board voted to defer the ordinances to the May 19 meeting (six-week window) to allow the applicant to secure recorded easements, clarify addresses with the property appraiser, and demonstrate safe emergency access; the deferral avoids full readvertising under county code.
