Tipton City staff outline 2026 pool opening, repairs and fee plan

Tipton City staff told the board the municipal pool is scheduled to open Saturday, May 23, and close Aug. 8, with no night-swim events planned for 2026 because of staffing constraints. Staff said they will turn on pool water around the 15th of the month and continue to monitor plumbing and bathroom systems before opening.

The report said staff has identified concrete repairs needed at both the north and south steps and on the splash pad and has contacted contractors to provide cost estimates. "Right now we're trying to get the pool up and running," the staff member said, adding that crews have been cleaning and preparing the facility ahead of opening.

The board was told the pool's fee structure will remain the same: daily admission is $3; group admissions (10 or more) are $1 per person; single membership is $75 with $25 for each additional member; swim lessons will be $15 per participant. Aqua Zumba classes will continue with a $2 per-participant fee paid to the instructor. Staff noted that, on select dates, the pool may close early to accommodate private rentals, which range from $250 to $400 depending on duration.

To reduce revenue losses tied to prior sponsored free-swim days, staff proposed piloting a paid sponsorship model. Under the plan, a sponsor-day would cost $765; sponsors could be rotated so multiple organizations could participate and maintain community access. "We're trying out a free swim day sponsorship ... that could be evaluated annually and it would be $765 per sponsor day," the staff member said.

The splash pad will remain free to use before and after pool hours and after pool closure through Labor Day, staff said. The board requested estimates for the concrete repairs and said it expects updated cost and staffing information at the next meeting before finalizing any additional schedule or fee changes.
