Allendale ratifies four-year police contract; CFO reports small tax-rate decline and building-department service changes

Allendale officials on Aug. 14 celebrated ratification of a new four-year police bargaining agreement and outlined administrative changes intended to modernize services.
Councilman Otul described the PBA agreement as "an extremely fair contract" negotiated to address recruitment and retention. "We're very proud of this contract," he said, thanking negotiators and administrative staff. Chief Dylan also thanked the mayor, council and administrators for their support.
CFO Alison reported that while the county tax rate rose, the borough's overall municipal tax rate for 2025 will be 2.030, down from 2.109 in 2024, due to conservative budgeting. Final tax bills were expected to be mailed by the end of September, she said.
Alison said that beginning the next day the building department will move to online or email inspection scheduling and will begin accepting online permit payments by credit card or electronic check, eliminating in-person or phone inspection scheduling.
Public-works updates included a staff promotion and a completed paving project in several neighborhoods; the council welcomed new DPW staffer Drew Milligan.
Council members and staff framed the contract and administrative changes as part of a broader effort to support public safety and make borough services more efficient.
