Mayor Kennedy O’Brien read and signed a proclamation on Jan. 29 proclaiming January as Muslim American Heritage Month in Sayreville, noting New Jersey’s large Muslim population and the borough’s continuing efforts to promote inclusion and diversity.
An imam who identified himself as director and imam of the mosque and community center accepted the proclamation on behalf of the local Muslim community and thanked the mayor and council, urging continued mutual understanding and celebration of cultural contributions.
