Allendale council hears updates on fields, AVAC lease, litigation and library events
Summary
Council members reported on park and recreation field rehabilitation planning with the Allendale Recreation Commission, said an AVAC lease is ready to be executed, discussed ongoing water/sewer litigation and affordable-housing paperwork, and announced library anniversary events and community fundraisers.
At the July 17 Allendale Mayor and Council meeting, multiple council members provided updates on local projects, contracts and community events.
Councilman Yakarino said he and other officials met with the Allendale Recreation Commission, conducted a site visit with ARC president Chuck Straworf, and will prioritize capital work and a "freshening" program for ball fields in coordination with DPW. He also outlined summer entertainment at Crestwood, including a July concert.
Councilman Otul, chairing public safety items, said Fourth of July activities proceeded without incident, noted resident concerns about pedestrian safety at a few locations, and reported that a long-awaited AVAC lease is in a position for execution. He also announced a New York Blood Center drive scheduled for Sept. 25 with a potential venue change to the community center.
Council President Hullman and Borough Attorney Ray updated the council on water and sewer matters and ongoing litigation. Attorney Ray said the borough is in discovery, expects further document exchanges and possible depositions, and is engaged in informal discussions with neighboring Saddle River on sewer projects and a proposed development. Hullman cautioned that the borough's fair-share housing submission has not yet been approved and that the administration continues to review options and refine its plan.
Chief Mike Gillan reported that Officer David Warbrick completed a humane law enforcement certification and will work with Sergeant Dan Rosenol as an animal cruelty investigator. Emergency management is updating the boroughwide emergency operations plan with input from the governing body and department heads.
Councilwoman Loiso summarized Land Use Board activity on July 2, said the council is considering a change to allow limited deer-fencing height increases and is revisiting Condo responsibilities for snow plowing. She also announced Lee Memorial Library's 125th-anniversary events, including a family movie night July 23 (rain date July 24) and an ice-cream social July 27.
Clerk Linda said the September meeting date has moved from Sept. 25 to Sept. 18 and noted resident Ela Croll will turn 102 on July 26. During the public comment period, resident Walter requested copies of the written reports that accompany council updates; the clerk said minutes and written reports can be provided on request.
No formal council action beyond the consent-agenda approvals and ordinance introduction was recorded on these items.
