New Milford honors Girl Scout Silver Award recipients; borough accepts offer of historic painting for review by preservation commission

Anna Ramirez, the service-unit leader for New Milford Girl Scouts, introduced and congratulated seven Girl Scouts who earned Silver Awards; two recipients, Miriam Ashhat and Aubrey El Desiree, attended the meeting to accept certificates and council commendation. Ramirez encouraged the recipients to consider pursuing the Gold Award, noting the Silver Award recognizes service and leadership.
Separately, the council discussed an offer from the estate of Edward F. Brimo to donate a painting by artist Patricia Sprouls depicting the Jacobus Demer Homestead. Gail Kleta, writing on behalf of the estate, asked that the painting be sent to the borough; council accepted the offer and asked staff to consult the Historic Preservation Commission to identify an appropriate display location and handling procedure.
Council also reviewed a series of community events and administrative matters, including local graduations, National Night Out (Aug. 5), the Friends of the Library fall book sale, a town garage sale and county storm-drain work on River Road that will continue about two months and produce traffic alerts for subscribers. The administrator reminded residents that the primary election is Tuesday, June 10 (polls open 6:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.).
