The Planning Commission heard a director’s report on April 6 that the City Council remanded proposed zone text amendments related to the housing element back to the commission for additional review and public discussion.
The director said the council’s action followed a 2-2 split by the commission in February and that council members and staff felt the public, council and commission would benefit from a joint study session to review the scope and programs associated with the housing element. "The council felt like it was a lot of information ... the public as well as the council and as well as probably the planning commission could benefit from a study session," the director told the commission.
Staff will coordinate schedules for a joint study session and seek to involve all commissioners. The director noted summer schedules and vacations may affect timing and said staff will follow up with commissioners to set a date. No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff will return with a proposed date and materials for the study session.
