Waukee council approves multiple site plans and ordinances, tables one rezoning and defers one contract award

Council also approved the Walke Town Center site plan (single-story, multi-tenant retail building with a drive-thru on private drives), a revised site plan for Kettlestone Peak Commercial (removing one drive-through lane and adding a restaurant expansion), the Waukee Community School District administration addition (preliminary and final plat, construction drawings, and site plan), and final plat/site plan approvals for Kettlestone Lakes Commercial Phase 2.
Ordinances and regulatory updates: Council approved ordinance amendments to Chapter 26 (park rental deposits, updated to allow online reservations and deposits), Chapter 55 (animal protection and control, including provisions to partner with an additional shelter for cats), and Chapter 65 (stop- and yield-sign modifications) on final readings.
Tabled items and deferrals: The Orange Commercial Development rezoning (A1 to C1) was tabled at the applicant’s request to the April 20, 2026 meeting. The award of the downtown street improvements contract was deferred so staff could gather additional bidder reference information; that award will return for council consideration on April 20.
Consent items: The council approved the consent agenda and passed routine motions recorded unanimously where votes were taken.
The meeting concluded with staff reports about community events, a recycling center ribbon-cutting and a closed-session announcement to discuss litigation strategy under Iowa Code.
