Monterey County, Monterey Peninsula College to host career fair April 23 with 14 county departments

Monterey County and Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) will host a county-focused career fair on Thursday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MPC’s main campus. Organizers said the event is open to students and the local community and is designed to connect residents with county jobs and internships.
"We have over 5,500 employees, 800 different job types, and we do have not just job opportunities, but we have internship opportunities that are available," said Michael Rosales of Monterey County Human Resources. He said about 14 county departments will attend, including assessor, elections, health, human resources, housing, community development, information technology, libraries, hospital, probation, public defender, public works, facilities and the treasurer-tax collector.
Carla Basera, work-based learning coordinator at Monterey Peninsula College, described the partnership as a way to bridge classroom learning with real-world opportunities. "This partnership is incredibly valuable because it bridges the classroom learning with real world opportunities," she said, citing last year’s event at the Marina campus that attracted roughly 150 attendees.
Organizers said the fair will be held outside in the Caroline Peach Garden in front of the MPC library, parking will be free that day, and flyers and materials will be provided in English and Spanish to ensure accessibility. Attendees will receive a passport at check-in to encourage engagement with department booths; completed passports may be entered into a drawing.
The event will also highlight programs such as Dress for Success — a donated-clothing initiative that has provided professional outfits to students — and ongoing internship and mentorship pathways. County HR staff and MPC partners encouraged attendees to use the fair to learn about the breadth of county work beyond typical office roles.
No formal actions or hiring commitments were announced at the briefing; the session served as outreach and event promotion.
