North Syracuse board highlights large ELA gains at Lakeshore and other elementary schools

Board member Mr. Mazzeo presented district testing results and highlighted substantial year-over-year ELA gains at elementary schools.
"Lakeshore had the largest increase in ELA proficiency across six counties in the region," Mr. Mazzeo said. He reported that Lakeshore’s proficiency increased by 23 percentage points to 52%. He also listed gains at other elementary buildings: Bear Road +7 points, Cicero Elementary +13, Smith Road +10, Roxboro Road +6 and Allen Road +8. He contrasted those figures with an average statewide ELA increase of seven points.
Mr. Mazzeo credited the district's focus on ELA, implementation of MTSS, ongoing professional learning communities (PLCs) and the continuity of CKLA instruction (full K–3 exposure for the cohort) as contributing factors to the improvements.
The presentation gave district-level context and did not include line-item data for all grades or full statewide comparisons by school; the board's remark noted that five of six elementary schools exceeded the state average in growth but did not provide an exhaustive dataset during the meeting.
