The Fernley Senior Citizens Advisory Committee set March 1 as the proposed start date for accepting fan donations for the 2026 fan drive and discussed distribution logistics for May and June.
Jackie Lavoy recalled that last year the drive began March 1 and used two distribution dates in May and June. Committee members agreed a similar schedule makes sense. Casey Casten said the city is likely to host the business expo again in May (in conjunction with Nevada's Small Business Week), and the committee identified the expo as the first pickup site.
Members discussed additional pickup locations and community partners. Lisa Callahan said the committee will pursue an arrangement with Squeeze In (a local restaurant) and that representatives from that business would be invited to speak at a February meeting about operational details. The group also discussed using the business expo table to publicize the drive and to coordinate a second distribution date in June with multiple pickup points.
Next steps: Keep March 1 as the intake start date, confirm business expo participation with city staff and invite local pickup partners to the February meeting to discuss distribution logistics.
